Devastation of Flooding

Heavy rain on 7th August caused flash floods in South-eastern Bangladesh, submerging areas in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, and Feni; isolating 230,000 people. The flood situation may worsen with continuous rainfall, with landslides resulting in the deaths of 4 people and damaging 718 houses. Emergency shelters have opened and urgent aid, including food and medical assistance, is being provided.

Emergency Response

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, ongoing heavy rain is forecasted to exacerbate floods in the next 24-48 hours. Emergency responses include 193 temporary shelters, 43 medical teams, and the allocation of 20 tons of rice and cash support. In Cox's Bazar refugee camps, 1,431 shelters have been damaged, with relocation efforts underway. The government seeks emergency food, clothing, and hygiene support for those affected.
